Devotion 1 Hurry! Hurry! Hurry! "Be still?" You've got to be kidding! Hurry! Hurry! Hurry! "Be still, my soul, the Lord is on thy side..." from the hymn
Two different calls to us: The scream of the pressure of daily living and the still small voice of the Lord. How do we heed the quiet one? How do I even hear it in the clash and clang of daily living? Being busy isn't the root of the problem. A full schedule doesn't hurt anyone. The problem is letting my priorities get all out of whack. You know what I mean. I'm busy and pretty soon I forget to talk to the Lord. I don't read my Bible. I may not even pay much attention in church. Sometime I even forget that He's right there beside me to help deal with the stress! How can I forget the friend that sticks closer than a brother? (Proverbs 18:24) But that isn't the worst of it. When I forget that the Lord is by my side, I start doing everything in my own strength, according to my own short-sighted will. And then do you know what happens then? I fall flat on face. And every time there He is waiting for me to pay attention. "Stayed upon Jehovah, Hearts are fully blest; Finding as He promised Perfect peace and rest." from the hymn Like a River Glorious by Frances E. Havergal ©Ann Wharton, Honeycombe@aol.com
