Lesson #55 The Devil The devil is not only the arch enemy of God and of Jesus Christ but is the enemy of all mankind, especially believers. His desire is to thwart the gospel of Jesus Christ that sets men free from the bondage of sin. To tempt those that would succumb to worldly sinful pleasure and indulgences of the flesh as well as to rob Christians of the joy of their salvation. One should never ignore the presence of the devil in this world nor minimize his power to reduce one’s resistance to his wiles. Satan is not god nor does he possess the attributes of deity. Still, he is a powerful adversary. Focus Read: Isaiah 14:12-17 The devil, Lucifer, Satan the fallen angel, desires to be God. Sin was born in Satan. Ezekiel 28:12-19 From perfection to iniquity. Luke 10:18 Satan, as lightning, falls from Heaven. John 14:30 The devil is the prince of this world. II Corinthians 4:4 The god of this world. Ephesians 2:2 The prince of the power of the air. I Peter 5:8 The enemy: the devil. John 8:44 Satan is a liar. Revelation 12:9 Satan is the great deceiver. II Corinthians 11:3 Satan is cunning. II Corinthians 4:3,4 Satan blinds man’s eyes to the truth of God. I Peter 5:8 The devil is always busy. Revelation 12:10 The devil accuses men before God. James 4:7 Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Scripture Assurance: I John 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Scripture Memory: Ephesians 6:10-12 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
