Lesson #40
The Church
Serving God in the Power of the Holy Spirit; in and through His Church
Christians should not be self serving, but God serving. Once we become a child of the King we also become a servant of the King. We become a "bond slave of the Lord Jesus Christ." We are freed from the "old mans" obligations and service of the flesh to truly serve the Lord in the power of the Holy Spirit who now indwells the new man in Christ Jesus. We serve willingly because of our love for Him and because of His commands to do so.
Focus
Read:
Colossians 3:2-24 For ye serve the Lord Christ. The Christian, no matter what he does, should be aware that we are to serve the Lord, to please Him, and to perform His will. For you see, He is the rewarder. He is the judge. This is not man's world but God's world.
Ephesians 3:3-4 They that are in the flesh cannot please God.
Romans 8:8 Christian, you can attempt to serve God in the flesh, but the flesh has no power to perform a work of God. The flesh cannot please an almighty God. The flesh availeth nothing, the Spirit everything. So, serve Him in the Spirit!
Galatians 4:6 The spirit of God's Son, Jesus Christ, dwells in the believer's heart.
I John 3:24 Christ dwells in the believer.
John 6:33 The Spirit of God gives life to the believer.
John 16:13 God's Spirit leads the believer into truth.
Colossians 1:9 Filled with God's knowledge concerning His will and spiritual understanding.
Ephesians 5:18 Be filled with the Spirit.
Ephesians 3:16 Christians are strengthened by the might of the Spirit in the inner man.
Scripture Assurance: Galatians 5:22-25 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Scripture Memory: II Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
