Lesson #20

Temptation – Sin

Chastening. Confession. Forgiveness. Restoration

Being a child of God does not exempt one from temptations. Though temptation is not in itself sin it could cause one to commit sin. God will chasten His children until the sinning person recognizes God?s displeasure and consequently confesses his sin to a forgiving Holy Father. The Christian needs to avoid temptations that might lead to sin and pursue a life that is pleasing to the Father. Sin does not cause the loss of ones salvation but of ones fellowship and favor with a Holy God.

    Focus:

Read: James 1:13-16Lust conceived brings sin.
I John 1:6-10God?s provision for sin.
Hebrews 12:1-11The love of the Lord causes Him to chasten His Children.
Proverbs 32:1-5Do not be weary of God?s correcting work in your life.
      Psalms 32:1-5Confession and forgiveness.
I John 1:9God is faithful to forgive the confessing
      sinner.

Question: Can a Christian commit sin? Personal Response:

    Explain:
How can a Christian have his sins forgiven and restored to fellowship with God?

    Scripture Assurance:
I Corinthians 10-13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape that ye may be able to bear it.
