Devotion 5

Ceaseless Praise

The words, "Let them flow in ceaseless praise" tumbled through my mind as I finished "Daily Diet" last week. Finally, on Sunday, I remembered they are from "Take My Life, and Let It Be," the music written by H. A. César Malan (1787-1864) and the words by Frances R. Havergal (1836-1879). Let me share the words with you as a follow up to that "Heartbeat."

Those days when you are too tired to form the words of praise or prayer,

read or sing the words or this song to God and — to yourself:

Take my life, and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee;

Take my hands, and let them move at the impulse of Thy love,

At the impulse of Thy love.

Take my feet, and let them be swift and beautiful for Thee;

Take my voice, and let me sing always only for my King,

Always, only for my King.

Take my silver and my gold, not a mite would I withhold;

Take my moments and my days; let them flow in ceaseless praise,

Let them flow in ceaseless praise.

Take my love, my God I pour at Thy feet its treasure store;

Take myself and I will be ever, only, all for Thee,

Ever, only all for Thee.

Take my will and make it Thine; it shall be no longer mine;

Take my heart, it is Thine own; it shall be Thy royal throne,

It shall be Thy royal throne.

High hopes, high devotion, these thoughts. Unattainable in these earthly

vessels, but not hopeless goals because God looks at our hearts; He knows

desires anchored there. Combine that devotion with our efforts — feeble

though they sometimes may be — and we have presented him an offering

with a sweet-smelling savor.

He asks no more of us. Why should we demand more of ourselves? We

need to rest today in this wonderful truth.

Again, I recommend that those days when you are too tired to form words

of praise or prayer, read or sing the words of this song to God —
and yourself.
